Who? The Word

"In the beginning was the Word,  and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God"                  John 1:1
Do you believe in God? Many people claim to believe in God but exactly what God are they claiming? I believe in one God, the God who appears to us in his word and reveals himself to us in his creation. John 1:1 tells us that "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
Now remember in Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth," by first saying, "Let there be light" and God continued speaking his word into all creation. God's word is not just the book we call the bible. The Word is with God and is God and has been since the beginning.
"The Word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone (John 1:4)."
If you want to know God personally you must come to know His Word. It is through his word that we have life. So if someone says, "I beleive in God" you might want to ask if they believe in the Word of God. You may want to ask yourself that question. Do you believe the Word is God?

Often times people think that hearing from God is some kind of mystical practice that few people can attain. Some people think they are being purposely ignored by God because they don't hear from him. Some don't believe God is involved in our lives that closely to actually be able to hear from him. In reality they are ignoring God by ignoring his Word. I can testify that God speaks to me through his word. My daily reading of the word speaks directly into my life and is my guiding light.  "For the Word is living and active (Hebrews 4:12)."
Did you know that "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14a)?" I would say that that is pretty intimate involvement in our lives. The word still dwells among us today and it is in that word that we see "his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14b)."
It is through the Word that we have life and through this life we come to know the light of the world. Relationship with Christ comes through the word. Jesus said, "My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice (Luke 8: 21)." Those are close, personal relationships.
The Word of God is not just an instruction book, the Word of God is a person.  "He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God (Rev 19:12-13)." One of the armaments of God is the Sword of the Spirit which as pointed out in Ephesians is the Word of God. Is this the same word of God we call the Bible?
Jesus says, "Look I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book." Knowing that Jesus is the Word makes me want to study the Word everyday,  keeping the Word of God in my heart and on my mind at all times. I want to be as close to Jesus as I can when he comes. The best way to do that is to study the Word of God and put it into practice.
I believe studying the Word of God is spending time with Christ who was in the beginning and is with God and is God.
