"Chill Out" - The Importance of Cooling Down

Did you know that after a rigourous workout uncinching your horse too fast can cause their blood vessels to burst? In her article, Chill Out- the Right Way, skenesson explains that when blood vessels break they cause horses to bruise and have a sore back. Click on the link to read the whole article and learn how to cool down your horse properly. Check out Pony Box for other equestrian resources and online horse games for the kids.

Cooling down isn't just important for horses. It is just as important to let people cool down before you attempt to engage them in meaningful dialogue. Have you caught yourself arguing with an angry person?
This is a great time to "Wait upon the Lord" and pray for wisdom and guidance so you'll be ready when you do bring up the discussion. Patience pays when  you postpone your thoughts for when the other person is calm and able to think rationally. Make sure you allow enough discussion time for the other person to be fully heard before you share your thoughts. Remember to listen twice as much as you speak and let the person know you heard them by sharing with them what you thought you heard. Once people feel they have been heard they are twice as likely to listen to another person's thoughts even if they are different. Often after we hear someone else out fully, we find we are actually in agreement with them or think of creative ways to come to a compromise.
